Narcotics Anonymous - A non-profit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a problem. They are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. This is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. There is only ONE requirement for membership, the desire to stop using.

Recovery Steps Calderdale - Drug and Alcohol Services
Recovery Steps Calderdale is a local drug and alcohol service with hubs in both Halifax and Todmorden. The service offers a range of support and advice around issues relating to drugs and alcohol and will assess individual needs and allocate a dedicated worker to support people through their journey in recovery. Recover Steps also deliver clinical interventions, such as substitute prescribing, physical and mental health monitoring and effective sign posting to other services.

Claire's Law
This scheme enables the police to release information about any previous history of violence or abuse a person might have. Under Clare's Law you can:
- Apply for information about your current or ex-partner because you're worried they may have a history of abuse and are a risk to you

The Acorns
Provides a flexible, responsive accommodation – based service to women fleeing domestic abuse and their children. The England Illegal Money Lending Team (EIMLT) STOP LOAN SHARKS
EIMLT is a national Trading Standards Team with a remit to prosecute loan sharks and to support victims of the crime. The team uses the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 to obtain warrants and has the power to enter properties, seize evidence, arrest, charge and prosecute criminals acting as loan sharks. IMLT will investigate and prosecute for all crimes that are linked to illegal money lending and provide full support to victims who at the point of reporting have often reached their crisis point and urgently need the help.

Councils have a duty to give advice and assistance. This is to help you find a place to live if you are homeless or face being homeless within 56 days and eligible. It also means that we should help households irrespective of ‘priority need’ or ‘intentionally homeless’, and have a duty to make a written personalised plan that includes actions that we and the household agree to do.
Services offered: Assessment of priority need under the Housing Act. Can provide temporary accommodation for those assessed as in priority need - those with children or pregnant, vulnerable because of age (60+), disability or at risk from violence. Self Care
We can’t change our age or our genes, and there is currently no way we can completely prevent dementia. However, there are some simple steps we can all take to help lower our risk.
Risk factors for cardiovascular disease (like high blood pressure and stroke) are also risk factors for dementia, so what is good for your heart is good for your brain. Looking after your health, cutting out smoking and being physically active on a regular basis will help lower your risk of cardiovascular disease. It’s likely you’ll be lowering your risk of dementia too, particularly vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
For good heart health:
- don’t smoke
- keep cholesterol and blood pressure under control
- be active and exercise regularly
- maintain a healthy weight
- eat a healthy balanced diet
- drink fewer than 14 units of alcohol per week.

The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme that encourages carers, family and friends to provide and put together useful information, which can then be used in the event of a vulnerable person going missing.

Mental Health support for children and young people.

Support Services - Adults
Adults can self-refer to Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services. IAPT is a national NHS programme, which offers evidence based psychological therapies or interventions approved by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). IAPT is primarily for treating people with mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety disorders, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
IAPT treatments are delivered via a stepped care model where patients are initially offered low intensity therapies, such as computerised cognitive behavioural therapy (cCBT) and guided self-help. If these treatments are unsuccessful, or not appropriate for individuals, higher intensity therapies are utilised and include one to one cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or interpersonal therapy (IPT). Single Point of Access (SPA) - Calderdale and Kirklees
The Calderdale and Kirklees Single Point of Access team (SPA) ensures that all urgent and routine referrals for Trust mental health services from GPs, and other statutory and third sector referrals are processed and responded to in a timely way, following a triage process.
There is now a 24 hour mental health helpline for anyone registered with a GP in Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. The service supports people who are:

Migrant Help protect people affected by displacement and exploitation, helping them thrive as individuals and recover from their trauma. Praxis
Praxis provide expert support to migrants and refugees in the UK. They are a leading expert in finding pathways out of destitution and supporting migrants facing homelessness, as well as survivors of trafficking and domestic violence and young people. Self Care
Although most people need some kind of social contact to maintain good mental health, everyone has different social needs. The person may be someone who is content with a few close friends, or they may need a large group of varied acquaintances to feel satisfied.
State that the simplest way to ease feelings of loneliness can be to try to meet more, or different, people.
- Can they think of anything they are interested in, a class or a group they have heard of, that could help connect them with new people? See Useful contacts for ideas of how to find groups. The Red Cross Connecting Communities team can help you connect with your local community and meet new friends.
- Volunteering is a good way of meeting people. Helping others can also really help improve mental health. See useful contacts for organisations that can help someone find local volunteering opportunities.

The Silver Line - A free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people. The Silver Line can also put people in contact with community activities in your local area.

AGE UK - This organisation has a a befriending service to support loneliness in later life, this is where a volunteer visits an older person once a week in their own home. There is also telephone befriending, where a volunteer befriender will phone an older person.

Some ideas would include: a friend, family member, anonymous listening service like Samaritans, student union welfare rep, personal tutor, students support services staff member, counsellor, or doctor. Decide who is the best person for you to talk to first. Be realistic about what each person can offer. If it doesn’t work out, try someone else. Talk to more than one person.
