What is a Social Movement for Health?
Whilst there is no single definition of a Social Movement, it is generally perceived as a large collective action of individuals or organisations focusing on a specific political or social issue. From a Health perspective, Simon Stevens, the Chief Executive of NHS England, stated that scaled social movements are “mission critical to the future of the NHS.”
How can MECC support a Social Movement for Health?
The development of a culture of health requires an increased focus on prevention, after all 'if the nation fails to get serious about prevention then recent progress in healthy life expectancies will stall, health inequalities will widen, and our ability to fund beneficial new treatments will be crowded-out by the need to spend billions of pounds on wholly avoidable illness.” NHS 5 Year Forward View.
So this is where MECC comes in...MECC is an approach to behaviour change that supports the opportunistic delivery of consistent and concise healthy lifestyle information and enables individuals to engage in conversations about their health at scale across organisations and populations. We have developed 'MECC Link' as tool enable you to make that difference and #meccithappen.
After all, we don't create the social movement, you do!
